...you will be required to confirm it. Knowing that life gets busy and we can sometimes forget all the things on our plate we send out a courtesy reminder text or email two days prior to confirm (yes, we are really that helpful!). You will need to respond to the text, but that only takes a couple of seconds – easy! Understand that by responding YES, you are confirming that you will attend the booking. This is the equivalent of you ordering a meal in a restaurant - your yes has now ‘ordered’ the services in our salon. The preparation for your appointment now begins by holding your spot and turning other clients away as that time is now ‘booked’.
Any texts/emails not responded to on the day, will be followed up with a phone call from us the next day. (Please don’t make this a habit just so you can hear our lovely voices again. :P) If we do not hear back from you by close of business the day before your appointment, your booking MAY be cancelled so your spot can be filled by another Mary as a preventative against ‘Confidence Blocking’ (see definition above). To avoid that awkward scene where you turn up to an appointment that you no longer have, please make sure that your mobile number is updated in our system and that confirmation is made back to us.
*If texting or emailing is not an option, you may call the salon on 3255 9868 to confirm.
*Bookings made within 48 hours are an immediate confirmation and you will not receive a reminder text, email or call.
...We totally understand that things can change at any moment; you might not be able to attend when you thought you could. You know, for those times where you suddenly get whisked away to Hawaii by that guy you’ve had your eye on or when you break your ankle attempting to salsa in your new pair of stunning high heels. We want to give you an amazing salon experience, and we’ll do whatever we can to do that at a time that works best for you. However, we do require 24 hours notice to move any appointments as a preventative for ‘Confidence Blocking’ (see definition above).
Giving us less than 24 hours notice to move an appointment, will incur a $25 fee. This is to help cover the running costs the business will incur for preparing that spot for you (which is a total bargain when compared to what it actually costs the salon when this happens).
If you move the appointment within 2 hours of your booking time, the fee will be $30 for a blowdry service, $40 for a haircut, $80 for a colour.
(Unfortunately this fee does still stand even when your boss has made you stay back at work. Be sure to negotiate your salon fee with them as part of your terms of staying back.)
...We understand that sometimes things pop up; situations that are out of your control, something that’s like a tractor beam dragging you kicking and screaming away from your All For Mary™ salon experience, and you may need to cancel. Things happen. But before entering your frustrating period of unruly hair or blaringly obvious regrowth as you wait for another opening in our busy salon that suits you, we simply require 24 hours notice that you cannot attend. Not only has this prevented you from being a confidence blocker, but it also means that it won’t hurt your bank account. Failing to give this notice does mean you will have to be charged to cover the costs of your booking.
First time cancellation fee (cancelling within 24 hours of your booking) is $30 for a blowdry, $40 for a haircut and $80 for a colour (which is a total bargain when compared to what it actually costs the salon when this happens).
If you happen to do this a second time (within 6 months), your cancellation fee is doubled, i.e. $60 for a blowdry, $80 for a haircut and $160 for a colour.
After your second offense, rather that continuing to double this price, you will be required to pay for any services you are arranging when making a booking. This payment is non refundable if you happen to miss that appointment as well. Alternatively you may try your luck at walking in on the day hoping for an immediate available time.
If you happen to get to this point, 6 Months of ‘good behaviour’ will result in your probation being cancelled and your status going back to normal.
...These are the worst of the confidence blockers. Your offence is two- fold. 1.You have Confidence Blocked another eager All For Mary™ Mary. 2. You have made our Tribe member feel like they’ve been stood up on a date. The same feeling as when you’ve gotten all dressed up but are alas alone at your table for two in a restaurant. Sitting there eating the breadstick entree’s, checking the door every two seconds waiting for that gorgeous guy or girl that never shows. And not even a phone call? Harsh. To pay for your transgressions (and the proverbial breadstick bill), you will be required to pay a Stood Me Up fee.
On top of this, we suggest that at your next booking, you invest in an ‘I’m sorry’ gift to your stylist to smooth it over.. BEFORE they pick up the scissors. :P Chocolate or flowers are acceptable gift ideas, but if you want to splurge on something a little more creative, we won’t argue.
First time Stood Me Up fee is $30 for a blowdry, $40 for a haircut and $80 for a colour (which is a total bargain when compared to what it actually costs the salon when this happens).
If you happen to do this a second time with us (in any time frame), your Stood Me Up fee is doubled, i.e. $60 for a blowdry, $80 for a haircut and $160 for a colour.
After your second offense, rather that continuing to double this price, you will be required to pay for any services you are arranging at time of booking. This payment is non refundable if you happen to miss that appointment as well. Alternatively you may try your luck at walking in on the day hoping for an immediate available time.
If you happen to get to this point, 6 Months of ‘good behaviour’ will result in your probation being cancelled and your status going back to normal.
...When you’re arranging your appointment, we are booking out adequate time to complete all the services you are asking for and thereby preventing it from being available to other clients. Reducing these services, i.e. deciding mid-appointment, ‘No I don’t want to be spoilt with a relaxing 10 minute scalp and neck massage today’, or ‘My regrowth is fine down to my ears... just the haircut today’, DURING your appointment is simply another more sneaky version of ‘Confidence Blocking’. Can you imagine telling the waiter to hold the salad as he’s walking to your table with the one you ordered in his hands? Reducing services at the time of your booking is effectively doing the same thing to a hairdresser as your ‘preparation’ starts well before you are even in the salon.
Because your needs may change between making your appointment and having it, we do send another email out 1 week before your booking, confirming the services you are booked in for. Responding to this email is your opportunity to alter your ‘order’. If we do not hear from you within 48 hours of sending this email, at your appointment you will be charged for the full services you were booked in for regardless of whether or not you have them all done.
To avoid this, be on the lookout for your email. A good idea is to check that we have your correct and current email address (and to check your junk folder if you don’t receive it).
...We’re in high demand, so there is a very good chance that when you rock up to your appointment, adding more services to that booking might not be possible. To avoid your regrowth showing at that party that popped up on the weekend, or having to live in eyebrow disappointment for the next week, let us know with as much notice as possible when you would like something else done or if you would like to upgrade your services. Feel free to respond to our confirmation email with the extra services you would like, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Don’t be afraid to ask when you are in the salon for that extra service - you may be one of the lucky ones who slip in. It is possible, we simply advise that you don’t rely on it.
Note: Even small changes such as going from a half head to a full head of foils, or getting an extra beauty service is essential for us to know.
...Despite our best efforts, with all the variables in play catering to the various Mary and Marty needs, there are moments we can’t run to time. While we would love that to not be the case, we know that running late is a better option than taking shortcuts on any of our Marys, compromising our quality just to be on time.
What we will do... is do our best to call you 15 minutes prior to the appointment when it’s becomes clear we aren’t on time, allowing you to plan around this change.
If your scheduled appointment is at a specific time because of other things you need to do, feel free to call us to confirm that we will be running on time and not be messing with your schedule. This avoids us causing your frustration levels to rise in our waiting chairs, watching other clients get their hair done and looking at the clock going ‘Ain’t nobody got time for this.’ We honestly do want to avoid putting you through that experience.
*Peak times such as after 5pm on weeknights and any point on Saturdays are times where there is more potential to run behind.
...We know that not every day can run to plan and there will be times that you can’t make it to us on time. Since we understand that there are times where we will do this to you, we will show you the same respect back when you do it to us by always doing our best to accommodate. Phoning us ahead of time to notify us that you will be running behind allows us to juggle our time, making sure we don’t affect others experience to rearrange you. If you haven’t already, store 3255 9868 in your phone, in case of such an emergency. Acceptable name titles are, All For Mary, My Favourite Salon, the Salon Experience that Rocks, that Place I Can’t Get Enough Of! ;-)
...There are a number of potential reasons why your hair appointment could run a bit longer than expected. Hairdressers are subject to variables and unpredictable circumstances too, like: changing your colour – it won’t take the same timing as your previous colour; if you need a toner; if you require a longer consultation; more intricate hair cutting; or longer application on your more personalized colour. It can be hard to book a day’s worth of clients and all the variables that come with their hair.
In saying that, we do understand that when this situation arises, it can cause some frustration. While we will always do our best to get you out the door on time, we do strongly suggest that you arrange your appointments with what we like to call, a ‘Masterpiece Creation Time Buffer’. This simply means, giving yourself a bit of extra time between your All For Mary™ appointment and the next place you need to be. This then allows us enough time to perfect your hair masterpiece before you walk out or doors. Can you imagine Michelangelo working away at creating the Sistine Chapel all the while having someone tapping their foot telling him to hurry up? Would his work have been the same quality as his 4 year creation took to perfect? Ahh probabbblly not. Leaving a buffer will mean we won’t have to cut corners on your hair OR make you late.
Our Tips for getting out quicker:
*The confirmation emails we send out a week prior have an estimated service time for you to help you plan your day. Keep in mind that this is a minimum time and not a promise.
...When you’re booking your appointment, be sure to advise us that you want to be booked in with a specific stylist (lol, even if it’s breaking the news to the Tribe member on the other end of the phone that it’s not them :)
If you need to move your appointment, you’ll need to again request the same stylist. If for any reason your chosen stylist becomes unavailable for your booking, we will call to give you an opportunity to book in with them at another time or offer to test another stylists skills. No, we won't leave it for you to turn up to find another stylist in their place, leaving you to deal with that awkward 'is it ok to turn around and walk out again?' thought.
...We know that with today’s busy lifestyle sometimes there is only one particular day of the week or time that you can make a booking. To avoid ever having to live with over grown hair, nasty regrowth or even booking with another stylist because yours has a 2 month wait, we have devised a way around it for you...Priority Bookings!
All you need to do is let your stylist know that you would like to secure a booking at a specific day, time and week rotation that works best for your hair and they will take care of the rest for you, arranging your bookings and emailing you all of the dates.
That’s right! Your spot (if you get in first) will always be YOUR SPOT! Obviously this is subject to availability so we suggest that you lock your bookings in as soon as possible. A few months before the end of each year we open the bookings for the following year...jump in!
Our moving, cancellation and no show terms and conditions are still relevant in these circumstances, however if you do any of the above with less than 24 hours notice more than once, your year of bookings will be removed leaving you to go back to booking them one appointment by appointment.
...After we have completed our work there is a good chance we are going to want to take a photo...why? Because we are proud of how beautiful/handsome you look and want to show off our amazing work of course! (Yep, biased, we know). If you allow us to take your photo, know that it's not on it's way to some secret safe where no one will ever see it again...it shall be PLASTERED over every social media we have access to! MWHAHAHAHAHA. Ok, so maybe we're being a little over the top, but it will be used on our social media. However, have no fear! We will make sure you look superb in the photo, not just for your own self confidence but also because if you look good, then we look good! We're in this image thing together peeps!
Please make sure before rushing out the door that you take a look at the photo we captured. Rest assured, if you aren't happy with the lazy-eyed look, or the strange mouth moment we accidentally caught you in, all you need do is let us know and we shall delete the photo, never to be seen by the human eye again. But we will be attempting to capture the reality of your good looks again, so get ready to pucker up a second time.
If for some reason one picture slips through the cracks of this gauntlet of image protection and you really don't want it up, all you need do is ask us to take it down and it will be done. We want nothing more than you feeling amazing about yourself and will do anything to protect that for you.
If somehow, after all of our care and attention, you've made it out of our salon without being happy with your haircut, colour or beauty service, we want to know about it. With each and EVERY one of our Mary and Marty's we aim to provide exactly the artistic masterpiece they are after, creating a look that displays their unique character AND a huge confident smile on their face! If we have fallen short of that for you, our job isn't complete. The majority of issues in the hair and beauty industry come down to a communication error...once we understand where things went wrong we can generally fix any problem, getting that confident smile shinning on your face again!
We do get it though, it can feel awkward to bring the problem up with your stylist! No one wants to hurt any one's feelings after all. Sometimes it's even easier to go to another salon or even have a go at fixing it at home (oh.the.horror!) Awkward as it may be please understand that neither of these options are ideal in our eyes, we simply desire for you to speak up so we can fix it. You are a valued Mary of ours and we want to see things through from start to finish with you.
Here's our tips for navigating you through the 'awkward' if this situation occurs:
...We know that it can be awkward to say, 'No, I'm not happy with that.' Most of us just want to get out of there and complain about it to someone else. But the BEST thing to do is tell us on the spot rather than going to your event with hair you're not feeling confident about! Blowdrys and Upstyles are EASY to fix right there and then. We won't get offended if it's not exactly how you want it, our aim is to get it PERFECT for you and we're 100% committed to that! After you've attended your event, there's nothing we can do about it and nothing we can 'see' that went wrong as our service will have been washed away (which also means that refunds or redo's are impossible to 'judge' therefore won't be approved). So tell us while you're still sitting in the chair, when we can actually do something about it. We want your night to be special, and we know how much hair that isn't quite 'you' can ruin that.
Just so you are aware, despite our amazing skills, a blowdry or upstyle is not permanent...curls especially will 'fall out' to a degree. Here are some tips to help you keep those locks in perfection as long as possible, exposing the enemies that will try to DESTROY your perfect hair:
It's always a good idea to test out how well your hair holds a curl before putting all your eggs in the one styling basket. Hairdressers are talented artists but it's a big leap from artist to miracle worker. We suggest you try some curls at home yourself to test their staying power, or come in for a test run before your event. We are dedicated to the goal of getting the look you desire, which includes creating one that your hair can achieve and sustain. So take these tips into consideration and we'll be well on the way to having you looking perfect for your special occasion.
...We have a rule with hair bleaching that's all about protecting YOU! It simple: don’t wash your hair within 3 days before your service. Washing it tends to cause irritations to your scalp which we aren't a fan of any more than you are. As we know that remembering this isn’t exactly the top thing on your mind 3 days out from your bleach service, an email will be sent out as a reminder more than 3 days in advance as a heads up. Put reminders in your phone, get someone to hide your shampoo and conditioner…whatever you need to do to NOT wash your hair!!
It is up to you to follow through with this. You are free to choose to not follow our advice, but if you are keen to avoid the burning sensation on your scalp, it is quite advisable.
If you have washed your hair prior to your appointment, (maybe you got covered in tomato sauce in a food fight and really felt the need to get it out of your hair) and you don’t want to risk the irritation you know you’re going to get from your bleaching, you will need to give us 24hours notice to reschedule your appointment. If you rock up with it washed and don't want to risk the burn that's fine, but be aware that you will still be charged full price for the service as we have booked it out in our appointment book turning other Marys away to keep that booking for you (see 'Confidence Blocker' definition above). If you wish to proceed despite your squeaky clean scalp, know that All For Mary™ is not responsible if any burns do occur.
...If you’ve never had a scalp bleach before, haven't had one for a while or have never had one with us, this area is specifically for you. While creating a gorgeous, clean, crisp blond is something we LOOVVEEEE doing, it is important for you to understand that there are potential hazards when it comes to bleaching.
Scalp bleaches will always have some sort of burning/stinging sensation when applied… it IS bleach after all. There are differences in that scale, 1 being a mild sensitivity that is slightly stronger than a tickle, 10 feeling like your scalp is going to burn off completely! It's ok, wipe the sweat from your forehead, it doesn't ACTUALLY burn off. Many people get bleaches regularly with no issues whatsoever! It is important to know though that this changes due to skin types and individual skin sensitivities, something a hairdresser can't actually know about you.
The best thing to remember is that we CAN'T feel what you are feeling. Unless you let us know, we are unaware of what kind of sensation you are feeling, or if you are in fact burning. Burns are generally not visible to the hairdresser as it's covered up with colour, your hair and burns actually only tend to visually flare up after the product has been rinsed away. So don't attempt to be a martyr and 'tough it out' during this process. Instead, please communicate and let us know what is going on on YOUR head.
Since it's not obvious beforehand if your skin will react, and we aren't able to see or feel while it's on what's going on for you, it is important to understand that All For Mary™ is therefore not responsible if any burns do occur. It is your choice to have a scalp bleach and your responsibility to let us know if it's creeping up towards that 10 level.
While the bleach is on your head, if you are concerned with the pain simply advise your stylist and it will be rinsed off immediately (know that if it is rinsed off early a second bleach application immediately after will be refused). If this does occur, don't sweat it! We will create a gorgeous colour for you on whatever level of colour your hair reached before rinsing the bleach off (aka no you won't walk out of our salon with bright orange, half bleached hair). There is no discount if this situation arises as the product and work time required will still be the same for us.
Has this information turned you off creating your dream colour? STOP the fear! There is a safe way of making sure your skin is up for a scalp bleach. Prior to booking in your colour give us a call to arrange a patch test. We will mix up a bit of colour and pop it on your skin behind your ear to see how your individual skin will react. Ahh no, it won't touch your hair leaving you with any odd looking colour patches that cause your friends to ask 'what's going on there?!'. Your hair colour won't be affected. Once you are sure you are going to be fine we can book your colour transformation in knowing everything is going to run smoothly. Make sure this test is done prior to your booking as appointment timing will prevent us from being able to do it at the same time as your colour visit.
